A&E Biography

A&E BiographyHe has effortlessly moved between Broadway and Hollywood, winning Tony® awards along with critical and popular acclaim. But the former "Ferris Bueller" refuses to let fame interfere with his determinedly normal New York life.

Matthew Broderick is a dyed-in-the-wool New Yorker. Born into a bohemian Greenwich Village family in 1962, he knew he wanted to act early on, and he landed his first film role when he was just 18. But the production fell apart, and his first real notice as an actor came instead on the stage, starring in the off-Broadway production of Torch Song Trilogy. Ever since then, he has effortlessly gone back and forth from stage to screen, delivering perfectly-turned performances in everything from the Brighton Beach Memoirs and The Cable Guy to How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and the 2001 Broadway production of The Producers.

Filled with clips of his star turns, candid shots and engaging interviews with friends and family, this is a comprehensive profile on one of the most versatile actors of his generation.
