Broderick's a Babe!

You Loved Him As "Ferris" And You're Gonna Love Him Even More As Just Himself!

Not Taking life too seriously is the key to Ferris Bueller's success, but actor Matthew Broderick is very serious when it comes to acting. In fact, he goes so far as to say, "Acting is one of the only things I feel competent at!" It's our guess Matthew does lots of other things well besides acting, but being a true perfectionist, he fails to notice!

How far does Matthew hope to take his talent? "I really want to be known as a great actor, which I'm not yet. I hope to be remembered with the Brandos and the Tracys. To be really known for the work and not as professional celebrity on talk shows," explains Matthew. By no means a publicity hound, Matthew determinedly maintains a low public profile, believing it will actually help him achieve his goals. "More publicity is not necessarily better for me," he asserts, "I don't want to be on every magazine cover...I don't think it will hurt my career to not show up at Hollywood parties." That's a lot of confidence for a young actor!

Such a strong belief in his skill often prompts Matthew to do things his way while at work, whether the director agrees with him or not! Whew, that sure takes a lot of nerve! Explains Matthew, "I've gotten along with all the directors and I've had fights with all of them, too. I never fight about things like my dressing room...I fight about the interpretation of a part. If I don't think what they tell me to do is right, I go along, but I'm resisting, and the scene comes out badly." Doesn't he worry about being canned? Apparently, there's no need! According to Matthew, "I'll tell a director what I think and sometimes I'll have a big argument. In a film I usually win because you've shot a month and you're already in the film. They wouldn't want to fire you and hire someone else and re-shoot a whole month; it's too costly, so rather than make trouble for themselves, they'll go along!"

Wow, that Matthew is really something else! But honestly, one can be sure that if the directors thought his actions would ruin the pic, they'd sure as heck hire another actor rather than film a bomb! And there's just no doubt about it, all of Matthew's pics have been hits!

Matthew's been working so hard for so long, he's now taking a well deserved vacation. Soon he'll begin filming Project X, the story of a young air force pilot who blows the lid off a classified project with the help of a chimpanzee skilled in sign language! The film won't be ready 'til Christmas.
